Childcare Vouchers
What are childcare vouchers: Childcare Vouchers to the value of £55 per week are issued to an employee. Vouchers are Non-Taxable and exempt from National Insurance Contributions (N.I.C.) for employees and offer National Insurance reductions to employers. This can save the parent up to £1196* per annum towards the cost of your childcare.

How does it work:
Childcare vouchers are more often than not offered as “salary sacrifice”, this means Parents agree with their employer to ‘exchange’ part of their gross salary before tax and National Insurance deductions; requesting up to the value £55 per week (£243 per month) in Childcare Vouchers.

Your employer will ordinarily take part in a childcare vouchers scheme and use a company to implement the voucher scheme for them. You will either be supplied with the vouchers directly or your employer will issue them on a monthly basis. You can then use the vouchers as part of the payment you make for your “Approved” childcare service provider, who will claim the value of the voucher from the company implementing the scheme; the payment is usually made directly into the bank account of the childcare provider.

Eligibility:
All employees, male or female, who have a qualifying child (children from 0-16 years), or who has parental responsibility for a qualifying child who lives with that employee, can take part in a childcare voucher scheme. Married couples or partners with parental responsibility for the same qualifying child can both take part in the scheme, thereby doubling their entitlement.

However, you Childcare vouchers can be used to only pay for registered or approved childcarers. Visit this link for more information http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/EIM22030.htm
