Nursery Manager and
Deputy
The Nursery
All Nurseries differ in terms of size, number of staff to manage, layout and ages of children. However, most nurseries cater for children from 3 months to 5 years.
Role
The nursery manager and deputy manager are responsible for ensuring the nursery provides the best possible standards of care and education; ensuring the environment is safe and secure, where the children are valued as individuals through a loving and child centred approach in all aspects of the way the nursery is run. It is also the manager’s responsibility to ensure that the children have access to learning opportunities throughout their time at the nursery; providing learning activities which are educational, stimulating and fun.
In addition, the manager is responsible for the day to day financial operations of a nursery, ensuring it generates revenue through maintaining high occupancy all year round and by working within an agreed budget.
To meet the occupancy and revenue targets set and manage all operating costs to ensure the continued profitability of the nursery. To deliver childcare in a way that meets parents’ needs and works in partnership with them providing high levels of customer care at all times.

Qualifications, training and experience required:
- NNEB, CACHE level 3, NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- A minimum of 3 years nursery management experience- For manager
- A minimum of 1 year nursery management experience- For Deputy manager
- Working Knowledge of OFSTED standards
- Ability to work in partnership with parents
- An ability to organise own work and use initiative
- Good time management, with the ability to work to targets and deadlines
- Working Knowledge of health and safety legislation
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Strong people management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a staff team
- Working Knowledge and understanding of equal opportunities
- Financial management experience; ability to work within a budget
