Supervisor
The Nursery and Unit
All Nurseries differ in terms of size, number of staff, layout and ages of children. However, most nurseries cater for children from 3 months to 5 years.
The unit you supervise will be dependent on your previous experience, if you have previously only worked with the pre-school unit then you will generally supervise a preschool unit as you will have expertise in that age group and with the foundation stage. If your previous experience lay with the babies, you will generally supervise a baby unit. However, most nursery nurses have experience of all units and can supervise any units provided they are able to offer the right experiences and meet the planning requirements for that unit.
Role
The nursery supervisor is responsible for ensuring the allocated unit provides the best possible standards of care and education; ensuring the environment is safe and secure, where the children are valued as individuals through a loving and child centred approach in all aspects of the way the unit is run. They will ensure that the children have access to learning opportunities reflective of their age and ability by planning according to birth to three matters or the foundation stage curriculum. The supervisor is also responsible for leading the team in the unit, ensuring the team upholds the companies policies and procedures, referring any matters to the nursery manager when needed.

Qualifications, training and experience required:
- NNEB, CACHE level 3, NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- A minimum of two years recent experience within a similar environment
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation
- Good working knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Act
- Working Knowledge of Ofsted standards
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to positively lead a team
- Experience of working in partnership with parents
- Working knowledge and understanding of equal opportunities
