Nursery Nurse
The Nursery
All Nurseries differ in terms of size, number of staff to manage, layout and ages of children. However, most nurseries cater for children from 3 months to 5 years.

Role
A nursery nurse is responsible for providing the best possible standards of care and education, as well as ensuring the environment is safe and secure, where the children are valued as individuals through a loving and child-centred approach. They must ensure the children have access to learning opportunities throughout their time at the nursery; providing learning activities which are educational, stimulating and fun. They will be responsible in following policies and procedures and referring any matters to their room supervisor. They may be responsible for “key children”, making them a “key worker”, which means they will be responsible for ensuring that they follow closely the development and progress of those children, developing strong working relationships with the parents and communicating about the child’s development on a daily basis.

Qualifications, training and experience required:
  • NNEB, CACHE level 3, NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent
  • Previous experience working within a similar environment
  • Working knowledge of health and safety
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to liaise with and develop good relationships with parents
