Maternity Nurse
A Maternity nurse specialises in working with families who have a new born baby and is qualified and/or experienced in the care of young babies. He/she is usually employed on a short term contract and normally lives in with the family and often sleeps in the same room as the baby. The maternity nurse generally is self employed and is responsible for the arrangement of his/her Tax payments and National Insurance contributions.

In addition, the maternity nurse may also be asked to do some of the following jobs to help the household run smoothly or to give the parents the opportunity/encouragement to spend some time with the baby on their own, to help the parents prepare for when the maternity nurse leaves:

At Caleeda we consider the duties of a maternity nurse to include:
- To Support Parents in all aspects of the baby’s care, role modelling good parenting practices, providing constant guidance on all aspects of care.
- Helping to establish good feeding routines which can be maintained by the parent/s after the maternity nurse leaves the family
- Helping to establish good sleeping routines which can be maintained by the parent/s after the maternity nurse leaves the family
- Help the parents to integrate a new baby into family life
- The Maternity nurse is generally on duty for 24 hours a day-6 days a week.
- The maternity nurse may get up during the night to feed and change the baby or to get up to support mum or dad whilst they feed or change the baby.
In addition, the maternity nurse may also be asked to do some of the following jobs to help the household run smoothly or to give the parents the opportunity/encouragement to spend some time with the baby on their own, to help the parents prepare for when the maternity nurse leaves:
- Basic family shopping.
- Running errands for the family-collecting dry cleaning, posting parcels etc
