Parent’s Help
A Mother’s help is usually an unqualified/ newly qualified or inexperienced nanny seeking to gain experience and confidence in a supported environment. He/she usually works alongside the mother/father/guardian and does not have sole-charge of the children. Most Mother’s /parent’s help live with the family either having his/her own room within the family home or alternatively he/she may have a self contained flat within the home or grounds. A live in Mother’s /parent’s help would normally work for 11- 12 hours each day and be required to baby-sit for 2 or 3 evenings a week. A live out Mother’s /parent’s help comes to the family home on a daily basis from Monday to Friday and would work up to 10 hours per day and babysit only by prior agreement. The salary for a live in Mother’s /parent’s help is generally less than that of a live out help, as it is determined by taking into account the accommodation, food and other living costs which may be provided in lieu of some pay.

- Help the mother/parent with all the basic childcare and learning needs
- Attending play dates with the children and the mother/parent.
- Helping with the preparation of meals and the cleaning up afterwards.
- Helping with the household Laundry and ironing.
- Helping with the making and changing of all the beds.
- Helping with keeping the house clean and tidy.
- Household task such as; basic family shopping, running errands for the family-collecting dry cleaning, posting parcels etc.
- Taking responsibility for any family pets.
- Accompanying the child/ren with the mother/parent to any appointments that he/she might have.
In addition, the mother’s/parent’s help may also be asked to do some of the following jobs to help the household run smoothly:
- Additional babysitting.
